Anchor - Project Warm Welcome

People who used to live in warm parts of the world are arriving in our area unexpectedly and unprepared for our chilly weather. Let's give them a warm welcome!

Catholic Charities welcomes bundled donations of 50 – 100 coats, hats, scarves and mittens that are:

  • Sizes for babies, children, women and men
  • Warm (no windbreakers, ball caps, fleeces)
  • New or gently worn and scrupulously clean and smell fresh as a daisy

We are also looking for warm, scrupulously clean blankets that smell fresh as a daisy.

Impact of the volunteer:

Having a warm coat, hat and mittens during the chilly season makes living in a new environment more bearable and helps people stay healthy.  Parents not worrying about this aspect of their children’s physical wellbeing gives them more energy to focus on other important duties to care for their families.

Catholic Charities Program Served:

Catholic Charities created a new program to provide emergency support to people who were forced onto buses in TX and AZ after crossing the southern US border.  The goal of the program is to help people gain control of their situation in 30-90 days: find housing, find work, begin legal proceedings, enroll children in school, and so forth.  A warm coat is a humane and literal warm welcome to complement the professional case management people receive.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collect coats in various sizes (baby, child, women, men)
  • Inspect the coats carefully and select the cleanest and warmest (and ones with working zippers, snaps, buttons)
  • Sign up for an available date to deliver a bundle of 50-100 coats

Coats and other items must be:

  • New or perfectly clean
  • Warm and cozy coats and hats only - no wind breakers, fleeces, rain slickers, ball caps, etc.
  • Smell fresh as a daisy (coats must pass inspection when delivered)
  • Be in bundles of 50-100
