This role is for those age 18 and above.

Newcastle City Guides are recruiting to add to their number of guides who plan and deliver their wide and varied programme of tours in Newcastle and the surrounding areas.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a training programme from October 2026 - March 2027, and then deliver walking tours in the summer seasons, mostly on Wednesdays and Sundays. (May – November)

Skills:

We are looking for those who:

Have good communication skills.

Have a good speaking voice.

Enjoy meeting people.

Are able to conduct a 90 minute walking tour.   

Have an interest in Local History.

Are able to undertake independent research.

Can carry out tasks independently and with initiative.

Good to Know:

Volunteers must have an email address and a mobile phone.

Most of the volunteering takes place outside.

Can be noisy on streets.

Tours take place whatever the weather.

Some tours may involve steps and uneven ground.

Must be comfortable with lone working

Able to commit to a 6 month training programme.

Volunteers are responsible for the people on their tours.

Volunteers are expected to conduct a minimum of 6 tours during our season (May to November)

Level of English language needed:

We are looking for volunteers who are fluent in English and able to deliver detailed talks and tours, as well as research, planning and writing the tours.

Please note:  there is a selection process for this role, and places will be confirmed after an interview.

Dates:

Training will take place on Thursday mornings from the 1^st October - 31^st March.

Once the training is complete, we are looking for guides to complete at least 6 tours between May and November, mostly Wednesdays and Sundays.
