Great North Museum: Hancock - Baby Takeover Support Volunteer

About this role
The Baby Gallery Takeover Volunteer role helps to support one of our largest scale under-fives events of the term. It feeds into our Mouse House under-fives programme. Our Mouse House programme has a number of free events which aim to introduce our smallest visitors to the museum in a fun and playful way.
During the baby gallery takeover 80 babies aged 0 – 14months will be invited to the museum to explore our Ancient Egypt and Natural Northumbria galleries through exploratory and sensory play.
Tasks
• Assisting with the set-up of activities.
• Welcoming babies and their families into the space, demonstrating and supporting simple activities and exploratory play. The specific activities will be discussed at the briefing meeting where you can choose one or two activities that you are most interested in supporting
• Directing visitors to other activities that they can join in with.
• Assisting with packing away activities at the end of the event
Skills needed
This role is suitable to those with a keen interest in supporting the wellbeing of young children and their families and can work with people in a friendly and approachable manner.
Level of English required
Understand times and dates
Follow detailed instructions with 2 or 3 parts
Have simple short conversations with visitors
Read signs and single words
Good to know
A Member of staff will be in touch to provide information you need to know before the event.
There will also be a facilities walk round on the morning of the event
