Great North Museum: Hancock - Treasure: Hidden, Lost, Found. Gallery Steward

The Great North Museum, Hancock is looking for volunteers who enjoy engaging with visitors of all ages, and  helping them get the most from their visit. You will need a friendly, approachable manner and a willingness to answer visitor enquiries, or to direct enquiries to the appropriate person. No specialised knowledge of the exhibition content is required, as information will be provided for you.

Tasks:

Provide a welcoming and friendly face to all visitors to the Treasure: Hidden Lost Found exhibition.

Direct visitors to support materials and trails.

Answer visitor enquiries, or direct visitors to the appropriate person to assist them.

Recognise any potential health and safety risks, or risks to the objects on display, and report them to a member of staff.

 

Skills:

A friendly, approachable manner and willingness to help visitors of all ages.

Good to know

The venue is accessible and volunteers can be supported with the sensory support bags developed by the North East Museums volunteering team if necessary. The venue can get busy and noisy. The exhibition will be very interactive and will include projections and videos, all of which may lead to an increased level of background sound.

Level of English language:

to do this role, you need to be able to:

 

Understand times and dates
Follow simple instructions
Give one or two word answers
Have short simple conversations
Read signs and single words
Read short sentences and simple  instructions

 

Dates and times:

Saturdays and Sundays 11am - 3pm from the 20th March - 20th September. Weekdays 11am - 3pm during the summer holidays.

Shifts are booked on a first come first served basis.  You can choose to sign up to as few or as many shifts as you are able.

  • General induction Must be attended
