Hatton Gallery - Gallery Invigilator - HAPPY!

This role is suitable for those ages 18+

This role will require volunteers to enjoy engaging with visitors of all ages, and to help them get the most from their visit. You will need a friendly, approachable manner and a willingness to answer visitor enquiries, or to direct enquiries to the appropriate person. No specialised knowledge of art is required, as information will be provided about the exhibition.

Tasks:

Provide a welcoming and friendly face to all visitors to the Hatton Gallery’s exhibition, HAPPY!, An exhibition curated from the Jerwood Collection by the Hatton Gallery’s young people’s group, L-INK. (HAPPY! | What's on | Hatton Gallery )

Answer visitor enquiries, or direct visitors to the appropriate person to assist them.

Recognise any potential health and safety risks, or risks to the artworks, and report them to a member of staff.

 

Skills needed:

A friendly, approachable manner and willingness to help visitors of all ages.

Good to know

Hatton Gallery has an accessible entrance including lift access. Although the building is often quiet, there are times when large groups are visiting that can be noisy. There is also sometimes machinery sounds from the University art studios in the building. This exhibition will also involve a number of projection and video installation works which will include sound.

Level of English Language 

This role involves talking to the public, so volunteers should be able to answer questions. 

This will include:

Understand times and dates
Follow simple instructions
Give one or two word answers
Have short simple conversations
Read signs and single words
Read short sentences and simple instructions

Dates and Times

3 hour shifts, morning or afternoon Monday- Saturday (excluding bank holidays) are available to choose from between the dates of Saturday 14 February - Saturday 9 May 2026

There is an in person briefing session on Wednesday 11th February, 10am – 11am. Please sign if you are available.

  • General induction Must be attended
