Tyne and Wear Archives - Archives inspired craft support

This role is suitable for those age 18+

The Education and outreach Manager (north East) for the National Archives who are working in Partnership with Tyne and Wear Archives are looking for volunteers to support an archives inspired craft activity.  helping to prepare it, and deliver it at the Home educators event at the Great North Museum.

Tasks

To help prepare craft materials on Friday 6th February, and/or help deliver craft activities for Home Educated Families at the Great North Museum's Home Educators Day on Friday 13th February 2026. This will involve cutting out shapes from card and helping children make paperchain sea monsters inspired by the curious creates and mythical monsters on maps from the National Archives collection. It will also involve keeping the craft activity table tidy so participants can find the materials they need.

Skills needed

Being helpful and enthusiastic, being confident in working with children, including those with additional needs, being reliable and well organised.

Good to know

The venue is likely to be noisy. There is quiet hour from 9-10am where numbers will be reduced, lighting higher and sound lowered for those who may be more sensitive to light and sound.

Level of English Langue needed

To do this role you need to:

 

Understand times and dates
Have short simple conversations
Understand detailed instructions with 2 or 3 parts
Read short sentences and simple  instructions

Prep day- 6th February at the discovery museum 9.00-12.00, 12.00-14.30 

Delivery - 13th February at the great north museum.
