About the Role:

We are looking for skilled facilitators to run creative activities supporting people with English as a second language.

 

These are free family friendly drop in sessions to practice English whilst taking part in hands on creative activities. You will use the collections, handling objects and creative materials available at the Shipley Art Gallery as inspiration to start conversations and discussion. You will be supported to explore these and develop your sessions to inspire you and the participants in informal discussion.

We are keen for this opportunity to develop and be led by those involved in the sessions, taking their lead when inspired and wishing to explore a topic further. You will be supported by gallery staff in this process.

It is hoped that this opportunity will enhance the participant’s quality of experience in the North East, provide new social opportunities, and develop new or expand on existing skills.   

 

Tasks:

You will be involved in creating a welcoming and safe environment for the participants while supporting them in developing their English language skills through creativity and discussion.

Our focus is both in supporting people in their English language development in conjunction with celebrating our varied cultures in our similarities and differences.

 

Skills:

We are looking for someone with skills and experience of working with people. Some experience of supporting those with English as an additional language.

 

Good to know:

Shipley Art Gallery is accessible to wheelchair users.

This session involves working with a group of people, and may get busy. 

 

English Language skills required:

Understand times and dates

Understand detailed instructions with 2 or 3 parts

 

Support others to improve their English Language Skills. 

 

Have long conversations

 

Plan sessions with other volunteers.
