Volunteer Requirements
To ensure a safe and consistent experience for everyone, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Age: 18+ for most roles (21+ for Emergency Department)

Commitment: Our minimum requirement is 12-months, with one 2–3 hour shift per week, on a set day and time

Availability: Most programs run Monday–Friday during business hours, with limited evening and weekend opportunities

Selection Factors: Availability, length of commitment, experience, and overall suitability for current openings
Volunteer Opportunities
We are currently pausing recruitment for our other programs in order to scale-up for the move to the New St. Paul's hospital. We are only recruiting for the following positions in 2026:

Screening: Only applicants who meet our requirements will be contacted and invited to a group interview.

Clearance: Successful candidates must complete a criminal record check and provide two professional references.

Training: Must complete the online PHC new volunteer training modules and attend an in-person group orientation.

Placement: Role‑specific training will be provided before beginning your placement.
In applying to be a volunteer at St. Paul's Hospital, I confirm that:
- I am 18 years of age or older
- I can commit to a minimum of 12 consecutive months
- I can commit to one 2-3 hours shift a week
- I consent to a criminal record check (Providence Health Care will provide the web link required)
- I understand that volunteers are required to get an annual flu shot or wear a mask during flu season (December to April)
- I consent to my references being contacted
- The information provided in my application is true and accurate
- I understand that completing this application process does not guarantee my acceptance as a volunteer

St. Paul’s Hospital is an acute care, teaching and research hospital located in downtown Vancouver. It is home to many world-class medical and surgical programs, including heart and lung services, HIV/AIDS, mental health, emergency, critical care, kidney care, elder care and numerous surgical specialties.
