Support young people to connect, share and feel a sense of belonging.
The Riot is a relaxed online session for young people aged 12+, providing a space to connect socially, share experiences and feel supported between programs.
🌙 What You’ll Be Supporting
As a volunteer, you’ll help create a warm, inclusive and low-pressure environment where participants feel comfortable being themselves.
Sessions are:
• Relaxed and flexible in structure
• Focused on connection, belonging and peer support
• Designed to encourage conversation and participation
🌐 About CONNECT
CONNECT sessions help young people stay safe, connected and supported between camps and activity days.
💻 What You’ll Need
• 🌐 Stable internet connection
• 🤫 Quiet, private space
• 💻 Computer or laptop (preferred)
• 🎥 Zoom downloaded and ready
🤝 Your Role as a Volunteer
You will join as a Co-Host alongside an AKKF staff member and play an important role in supporting both the session and the young people.
You will:
• 👀 Monitor participant behaviour and chat
• 🚪 Manage the waiting room
• 💻 Help with basic tech support
• 🧠 Observe emotional wellbeing and group dynamics
• 🎤 Support engagement and inclusive conversation
• 🤗 Step in to support individuals if needed
• 📸 Take attendance screenshots
You are there to help ensure the space feels safe, welcoming and supportive for everyone.
📋 What to Expect on the Day
⏱ Before (15 mins prior)
• Join early for a quick pre-brief with staff
• Run through the session plan and any key notes
🌙 During (45 mins)
• Welcome participants
• Support conversation and engagement
• Help maintain a positive and inclusive space
• Monitor wellbeing and group dynamics
• Follow the Rule of 3 at all times
🏁 After
• Help wrap up the session
• Stay for a short debrief with staff
🛡 Safeguarding
Your role is key to maintaining a safe space.
Always:
• Follow the Rule of 3
• Keep your camera on
• Maintain a professional environment
• Raise any concerns immediately
Never:
• Be alone 1:1 with a young person
• Ignore signs of distress
• Allow inappropriate behaviour or chat
