Volunteer Position Description
Job Title: Carestaff Volunteer
Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator
Summary: Carestaff Volunteers provide the cats in our shelter with basic care and a clean, sanitary environment. Our goal is to provide a high quality of life and a short shelter stay while keeping the cats happy, healthy and well cared for. The best way to achieve this is with the help of our Carestaff Volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide basic care for all cats in the shelter (offer fresh food & water, scoop litter boxes, spot clean, change soiled bedding, and other care tasks as needed.)

Maintain daily records of each cat’s appetite and other overall health markers.

Clean vacant cages, do laundry and dishes, sweep floors, clean carriers, take out trash and restock items

Various other light housekeeping duties when/if time allows.

Ensure a high level of biosecurity by following shelter protocols regarding cross contamination and sanitation standards.

Maintain a professional relationship with all volunteers and staff associated with MCP
Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum of 18 years of age

6-month minimum time commitment

Must have access to internet and an email account

Have the ability to understand, remember and follow instructions and procedures; and the ability to ask questions when appropriate

Basic understanding of cat behavior and comfort working around cats with a variety of temperaments ranging friendly to fearful to feral.

Reliable attendance and ability to work independently

Ability to squat, bend, twist, lift and stand for up to two hours
Training, Schedule, and Commitment:
-
Training provided in the general orientation followed by at least one shadow shift before working independently.

Commitment of one weekly or one bi-weekly shift for at least 6-months
-
Able to dedicate at least 2 hours hour per shift

Shifts available from 6:00AM-10:00AM or 5:00PM-9:00PM, 7 days a week
