Events Volunteer
Help create welcoming, enjoyable events for people affected by facial palsy.
About Facial Palsy UK and this role
Facial Palsy UK is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by all causes of facial palsy through information, support and research.
Our events bring people together, raise awareness and create opportunities for people affected by facial palsy to connect with others who understand their experiences.
As an Events Volunteer, you can get involved in a way that suits your interests, experience and availability. You might help out at an individual event, volunteer more regularly, or take on an Events Coordinator role with greater responsibility for helping plan and organise activities.
These roles contribute to Facial Palsy UK's Support objective by creating opportunities for people to connect, and our Inform objective by helping raise awareness and share trusted information.
How you could get involved
Events Volunteer
Perfect if you'd like to get involved flexibly and help make our events a great experience for everyone attending.
You could:
- Welcome attendees and help them feel comfortable.
- Help with setting up, registration and event materials.
- Answer basic questions and signpost people to FPUK information.
- Support activities and help things run smoothly on the day.
- Help gather feedback from attendees.
You don't need previous events experience – we'll make sure you know what you're doing and have support on the day.
Events Coordinator
If you'd like to take more of a leadership role, you could volunteer as an Events Coordinator, helping us plan and organise events as well as supporting their delivery.
You could:
- Help plan events and coordinate arrangements in the run-up.
- Research venues, activities and suppliers.
- Communicate with attendees and other volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteers and activities on the day.
- Help gather feedback and identify improvements for future events.
Some previous experience of organising events, activities or groups would be useful for this role, but this could come from work, volunteering, education or your own community.
What we're looking for
Whichever way you choose to get involved, we're looking for people who are friendly, reliable and enjoy working with others. You'll be helping us create welcoming and inclusive experiences, so being approachable and considerate of different people's needs is important.
What you'll get from volunteering
You'll have the opportunity to meet new people, contribute to the Facial Palsy UK community and help create positive experiences for people affected by facial palsy. Depending on how you get involved, you can also develop experience in teamwork, communication, event planning and coordination.
Practical information
Location: Events take place in different locations across the UK, with some planning tasks completed remotely.
Time commitment: Flexible. Events Volunteers can choose which events they would like to support. Events Coordinators will usually be involved in the planning period before an event as well as on the day.
Training and support: You'll receive an induction and support from the Facial Palsy UK team appropriate to your role.
Expenses: Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while volunteering will be reimbursed in line with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.
Inclusion and DBS information
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and communities and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.
A DBS check may be required depending on the event and the responsibilities you take on. If a check is required, we'll discuss this with you before you begin. Having a criminal record does not automatically prevent someone from volunteering with Facial Palsy UK.
