Visitation

Visitation volunteers work in the medical units on the hospital side and also in Long Term Care.  In our medical units, there are patients who are waiting for a space in a continuing care facility or who have long recovery periods who would greatly benefit from some interaction and activities, but there is no Recreation Therapy program to assist with this.  Volunteers can fill the gap by chatting, reading, playing games, playing or sharing music, doing puzzles, etc. to help the patients’ health improve; these can be individual or in small groups.  In Long Term Care, visitation volunteers work in conjunction with Recreation Therapy.  There is training provided prior to starting in this role.

Shifts are scheduled based on the needs of the individual and department or unit and in consideration of volunteer availability.  They can be any day of the week and can be in the morning, afternoon or early evening outside of mealtimes.
