Activities in Long Term Care

These volunteer positions do quite a wide variety of things to assist the Recreation Therapy staff in Long Term Care to provide activities and events to enhance and enrich the lives of residents.  Some things that have and are being done include BBQ meals over the summer; pancake breakfasts; bingo; Yahtzee; monthly birthday celebrations; crafts; community outings; Pub Night; and Indigenous culture and crafts.  Volunteer duties vary depending on the activity and can include helping those with mobility issues get to activities; serving food; preparing food; instructing; helping residents follow instructions; preparing and decorating; helping set up and put away; leading games; etc.  Some specialized training is required prior to starting to volunteer.

Most positions have a shift about once per week anywhere from 1 to 3 hours long.
