Toronto - Future Cities - Future Cities Summit Host 2019 - Nov. 7 & 8 - Application

Join the team to welcome 700+ city leaders to the second Future Cities Canada Summit, with a focus on Catalyzing Community Solutions!  Future Cities Canada is a collaborative platform that harnesses the momentum for change already in progress in cities. The Summit showcases exemplary communities leading inclusive, low-carbon cities. It’s also a platform to get playful and mindful, and to embrace happy failures and the lessons they bring. It will pair mainstage programming with concurrent workshops, collaborative sessions and deep dives, all complimented with creative and energizing breaks and networking — both led and unled. Summit hosts will support registration, wayfinding and a variety of engagement activities and sessions.  They will provide a warm welcome, and pitch in for any logistical support as needed, to ensure a seamless participant experience. As a volunteer, you’ll be ensuring a well-run, impactful event that will help equip our city’s leaders for the future.

What you bring:  You are a friendly, committed team player.  You bring an adaptable, can-do attitude.  You have at least intermediate verbal English skills.  You are aged 18 or older.  An interest in the issues of future cities and/or previous event experience are definite assets.  We welcome applications from persons of diverse backgrounds. 

When & where: The Summit takes place November 7 (7:30 am to 7:30 pm) and November 8 (7:30 am to 4:30 pm).  You will be expected to commit to a minimum of at least 2 shifts (4-6 hours) during the summit.  You will also need to attend an evening orientation session prior to the event (Nov. 5, 6-8 pm) The Summit is at Evergreen Brick Works, 550 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON. 

How we’ll support you: You will participate in a pre-event orientation and receive details about Evergreen, Future Cities Canada and the event.  Staff will be on hand throughout the event for direction and support.  

Perks: When not on duty, you’ll get to participate in the summit plenary sessions. You’ll get to learn more about the key issues facing cities, from low carbon infrastructure and technology to collaboration and participation.  You’ll meet leaders from government, private and social sectors and get to work alongside the Evergreen team. We will provide a light lunch and snacks during the event.
