Non-Public Facing Volunteer Roles

There's much work behind the scenes that volunteers can assist with throughout the year!

DIET PREP - Help Prepare Animal Diets

Our FOTZ trained volunteers prepare diets for many animals in the diet kitchen every FRIDAY & SATURDAY mornings (8 am - Noon).  Volunteers for diet prep must be 18 and older and be able to stand for long periods of time.  This task benefits from consistent engagement, so volunteers who are accepted to train in diet prep should be prepared to sign up for 2 or more shifts per month on a consistent basis.  Completing new volunteer orientation is strongly recommended for all diet prep volunteers.

EVENT SET UP / TEAR DOWN

The Friends of the Zoo hosts events from March - December and we always need help with event set up / take down.  From the Zoo Run Run to Penguin Palooza to Brew at the Zoo, events help raise awareness of the Zoo's conservation message, as well as significant funds to help support the Zoo in achieving its mission. Even smaller events have significant set up and tear down - and these tasks are perfect for volunteers who wish to support the zoo in a behind the scenes manner!

HOLIDAY LIGHT INSTALLATION & REMOVAL

Each year in preparation for Holiday Nights - our large winter event which takes place three weekends in December, we will bring in groups and individual volunteers to help decorate the Zoo from the Courtyard to Penguin. We will begin putting up our lighting displays in the late summer / early fall and take them down again after the holiday season!  This activity is perfect for local organizations who wish to engage in group community service, but we will also rely on our own active volunteers to assist with light install, take down and supervision of teams.

MISCELLANEOUS TASKS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Do you enjoy carpentry, building things, hardscaping, and/or have artistic talents to share??  Having volunteers on hand who have special skills in these areas can be exceedingly helpful when small projects come up throughout the year.  We will reach out to our active volunteer team for help with projects as needed - such as re-building Santa's Chair for holiday Nights - or creating  a fun Selfie Station for Zoo Boo!  Come and share your talents as a FOTZ volunteer!
