Docents - Docent Training
Are you interested in becoming a docent at the zoo? Join us for our training series! These trainings will focus on the animals and practices at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, as well as how we incorporate interpretive education practices around the zoo.
ONLY Experienced FOTZ Volunteers are eligible for DOCENT TRAINING.
To be eligible, you must first:
1) Complete Orientation (signed waiver / receipt of handbook)
2) Complete 20-30 hours of RGZ volunteer service OR have a formal background working with children (teacher, licensed childcare worker, etc)
3) Received/Receiving your Volunteer Shirt & Name Tag
4) Complete a Background Check (ask Lauren for assistance)
TRAINING:
Docent training will be 10am-4pm with a half hour lunch included.
You must attend one Session A lesson and one Session B lesson. These two sessions will comprise of entirely different content, so you must attend one of each. These offerings will alternate on the calendar. As an example, for August 2, 9, 16, and 23, you would need to attend one of [Session A] on the 2nd or 16th and one of [Session B] on the 9th or 23rd. You do not have to do these sessions in any particular order, as long as they are in the same month.

Examples of valid schedules: 2nd and 9th, 2nd and 23rd, 9th and 16th, 23rd and 16th.
Non-Valid schedules: 2nd and 16th, 9th and 23rd.
Trainings will be offered x2 or x3 yearly for newly interested volunteers. Docents may be asked to renew their training every few years at zoo discretion.
