Education - Jr. Vet Clinic Docent

FOR EDUCATION APPROVED & JVC DOCENT TRAINED VOLUNTEERS ONLY

The Junior Veterinary Clinic provides an imaginative play space for learners of all ages and abilities to engage in pretend animal care using toy medical tools and plush animals.  

Volunteer Junior Vet Clinic Docents will monitor this play area during their shift.  Duties include: 

  • Interacting with children and parents as a "nurse" and guiding them on playing in the Jr. Vet Clinic
  • Pick up and organize toys
  • Organize, clean and sanitize at end of the shifts 

Shifts are ideally 10 am -  1 pm and  1 pm - 4:15 pm.
Modifications to these shift times can be approved by the Education Department

All Jr Vet Clinic Docents must meet with Education to be fully trained in the duties of a Jr Vet Clinic Docents before being allowed to sign up for shifts.  If you are an approved Education program volunteer who wishes to to complete JVC docent training, please contact the Education department directly. 

This is a public facing position.  This activity will require modest physical activity, and may require extensive standing during your shift, as well as bending, stretching and moving light items.  Volunteers should wear their RED Volunteer shirt and name tag.   

 To Become an Education Approved Volunteer, volunteers must: 

  • complete volunteer orientation
  • complete a minimum of 20 hours of general / event volunteer service 
  • have a signed standard waiver form on file
  • complete and pass a background check 
  • complete any other specified training as required by education (per activity)
