Education - Teddy Bear Clinic

FOR EDUCATION APPROVED VOLUNTEERS ONLY

Teddy Bear Clinics are held in the Animal Health Center to promote careers in veterinary sciences to our Zoo guests.  Volunteers will "run" the clinic by serving as Veterinary Clinic professionals (nurses, doctors and surgeons) overseeing the clinic operations including: 

  • Check In
  • Intake / Triage
  • Physical Examinations
  • Surgeries
  • Grooming

Volunteers are encouraged to wear scrubs if possible.  If not, we have doctor's lab coats available.
Operations and surgeries will be completed on teddy bears - and sewing ability can he helpful for some tasks! 

This is a public facing position and all volunteers must be approved education program volunteers.  This activity will require modest physical activity, and may require extensive walking/ motoring through the park.  Volunteers should wear their RED Volunteer shirt and name tag.   

To Become an Education Approved Volunteer, volunteers must: 

  • complete volunteer orientation
  • complete a minimum of 20 hours of general / event volunteer service 
  • have a signed standard waiver form on file
  • complete and pass a background check 
  • complete any other specified training as required by education (per activity)
