Kennel Assistant

Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Kennel Assistant. This role is vital to the health and well-being of our shelter dogs, ensuring their kennels are clean, safe, and comfortable each day. Responsibilities include resetting kennels every morning by cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces, replacing bedding, toys, and water buckets, and ensuring all kennel functions are in working order. If you are passionate about animal welfare and enjoy hands-on work that makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

Shelter Assistant

As a LAPS Shelter Assistant, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include general cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, washing and sanitizing dog and cat bowls, and emptying garbage and recycling bins. This position is integral to the shelter’s daily operations and is greatly valued by the LAPS team. Your efforts will directly contribute to the care and comfort of animals in need while being part of a compassionate and dedicated team.

Dog Walking

LAPS is seeking dedicated Dog Walker Volunteers to provide essential exercise and enrichment for shelter dogs. Volunteers will follow the LAPS Dog Walking Program protocol, safely harness and leash dogs, and walk them on our facility trail or engage in playtime in the yard. This role requires physical agility and strength to handle dogs with varying leash manners, including those that may pull or bite the leash, and includes waste cleanup during walks. By volunteering, you’ll play a critical role in reducing kennel stress, keeping dogs active, and improving their well-being as they await their forever homes.

Dog Enrichment

LAPS is seeking passionate volunteers to enhance the well-being of shelter dogs through play, care, and attention. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining outdoor play areas, ensuring fresh water, inspecting toys and Kuranda beds, and providing enrichment through activities like fetch, teaching tricks, and offering cuddles. Cat Care

As a Cat Care Volunteer with LAPS, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the health and happiness of the cats in our care. Reception Assistant

Donations Assistant

The Donation Assistant helps with organizing and sorting all the incoming donations from the community. They also help with donating out the excess donations to organizations in the community that can use them!

Events

Event Volunteers support Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) by assisting with fundraising initiatives like our Golf Tournament and Cocktail Reception, community events such as the Santa Claus Parade and Douglas Days, and exposure events like the Women’s Show. Responsibilities include helping with event setup, managing booths or stations, engaging with the public, and supporting fundraising activities like raffles or auctions. Volunteers should be reliable, adaptable, and passionate about animal welfare, with strong communication skills. This role offers a chance to gain event experience, connect with the community, and make a meaningful impact for animals in need.

Transport Volunteer

Our Volunteer Driver – Veterinary Transport is a true lifeline for animals in our care—making sure cats and dogs get to vital vet appointments safely, calmly, and on time. By transporting animals from the Patti Dale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove to LAPS partner veterinarians in Langley, you help ensure timely medical care and better outcomes—one trip at a time.

Grounds Maintenance

This position will work primarily outside taking care of the 7 acres that we are on! Volunteers will work on tasks such as mowing, weeding, raking, leaf blowing, watering plants, planting seasonal plants, filling holes in the dog yards, maintaining the trail, etc. 

Repair Volunteer

Our Repair Volunteer is the go-to “resident handy human” who helps keep the Patti Dale Animal Shelter running smoothly. This as-needed role supports staff by fixing small issues as they pop up—everything from quick equipment repairs to assembling furniture—so the team can stay focused on caring for animals. No set shift, just meaningful help when it’s needed most.

Photographer/Videographer

The photographer/videographer volunteer position is mostly for our fundraising events to help us document all the community minded events we host and attend. There are usually about 4-5 each year and we send the invite out well in advance of the event!
