Countywide Natural Resources - Greenhouse - Greenhouse Volunteers (LHMF)

General Description
Green thumbs wanted (but no experience necessary). Assist Dakota County Parks growing native plants in our greenhouse. Tasks may vary, but most often you will be helping us transplant seedlings. Other tasks may include weeding or planting in propagation beds, washing and organizing growing containers, watering plants, sowing seeds, and assisting with other miscellaneous projects.

Schedule varies, greenhouse season runs May – August
Every Tuesday & Thursday, 9-11 a.m.
Some weeknight evenings 5-7 p.m. (check back regularly for additions to the schedule)
Last Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. - noon and 1-3 p.m.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Duties will vary at the greenhouse depending on time of season and project needs.
- Make sure to wear/bring:
- Layers that can get wet and dirty
- Sun protection (hat/sunglasses/sunscreen)
- Comfortable, closed toe shoes
- Water bottle
Minimum Qualifications
- Enthusiasm for the outdoors and conservation.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision (or come with someone that can assist you as needed).
- Ages 16 and older welcome; children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult/ guardian.
What to Expect
- Greenhouse work may involve varying amounts of activity and moderate physical exertion including walking short distances; standing or sitting in place; lifting & carrying up to 30 pounds; bending, stooping, kneeling. Most tasks involve repetitive use of hands, arms, and upper body, and many – but not all – require standing or walking.
- Tasks may occur either indoors or outdoors depending on weather conditions.
- Some work areas have echoing acoustics and/or a busy, bustling atmosphere with multiple conversations happening at once.
- Most workspaces are accessible by wheelchair, and some tasks may be completed while seated.
