Dakota County Parks

 

General Description

We will be surveying throughout Lebanon Hills Regional Park for ten different frog and toad species. We hope the information gathered will give Dakota County a better understanding of what species are in the park and possibly use this information to estimate populations. We also consider this information gathered a great tool to make better management decisions for future restoration projects.

Flexible Schedule

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Working as a team of two, patrol predetermined trails and record frog and toad calls.

You will need to survey your route three times, once during each survey period. The survey periods are April 14 - 30, May 19 - June 4, and June 23 - July 9.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be able to comfortably stand quiet for long periods of time
• Ability to hike over rough terrain and in the dark for up to one mile
• Must be 16 years old or older (if under 18, must volunteer with an adult)
• Preferably, bring a partner to help you on your patrol (friend, spouse, parent, etc.)

 

Minimum Time Commitment

Varies, most volunteers will put in between 10-20 hours of service performing their survey routes. 

 

Activity Level

Active - Involves physical exertion for an extended period of time; can involve rough, uneven or steep terrain. Not recommended for volunteers with physical limitations.

 

Required Training

Training will be hosted in-person and virtually if you cannot make the live training date.
