Spring Lake Park Reserve - 9.28: National Public Lands Day at Spring Lake Park Reserve


General Description

Give a little love to your local park. Join Dakota County Parks, National Park Service, and Mississippi Park Connection to help us improve the health and quality of our park through a morning of fun restoration projects. Together, we will plant native prairie grasses and wildflowers to continue restoration efforts in Spring Lake Park Reserve.

 

This fun, hands-on, family-friendly event will give you opportunity to participate and learn about stewardship and natural resource restoration through park improvement projects. All ages and abilities are welcome. We will offer both kid-friendly activities as well as adult activities. Admission and parking are free.

9 a.m. – Noon - Projects

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Help plant and seed native prairies.
  • Help support the work projects as needed. You will be assigned as needed and by ability. 
  • Attend the whole duration of the event. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • We recommend volunteers be at least 5 years old to fully engage with this event but all ages are welcomed to participate. Must be 16 years old or older to participate without an adult present. 
  • Some areas will have uneven terrain and need standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift carry 5-25 pounds safely.
  • Event will be entirely outside. Please prep and plan for the day's weather conditions. 
  • If you would like to volunteer as a group (families not included), please contact our volunteer coordinator before registering so that we can help get your whole family accounted for.

3 hours

 

Activity Level

Active - Involves physical exertion for an extended period of time; can involve rough, uneven or steep terrain. Not recommended for volunteers with physical limitations.
