If you have time to give and are interested in helping seniors live more enriched lives, we invite you to volunteer. We offer the opportunity to work alongside our team with flexible hours to suit your schedule.  You will have the opportunity to enjoy the rewards of learning new skills, being part of an interdisciplinary team, building new friendships, and sharing your skills and gifts to brighten someone’s day. Volunteers range from family members to community members to neighbours and seniors themselves. Residents welcome our volunteers’ effort and eagerness to be a part of their lives.

2022 Virtual Volunteer Opportunities 

For remote volunteer roles, any age can participate! Contribute from home by knitting, sewing, woodworking, crafting, or online/ paper scrapbooking.

This position is not currently looking for new volunteers. We appreciate your interest and hope you will consider applying again in the future.

Volunteer Opportunities

Recreation Volunteer

Recreational volunteers support staff to implement and supervise activities/recreation opportunities for residents to maintain health and well-being.   Activities can include seated fitness, special events, games, music, and outings.
Schedules vary however are available most mornings, afternoons, evenings and/or Saturdays. 

Recreation Volunteers are open to meeting and communicating with residents who are experiencing aging, physical challenges, and/ or dementia. Openness to learning and receiving input from staff members will assist a volunteer to become adept in supportive strategies.  This position is well suited to anyone interested in portering and participating with residents and staff members in preplanned activities such as board and card games, seated fitness, seasonal and special events,and music performances.

Companion Volunteer

AgeCare Companion Volunteers provide regular one-on-one visits with residents who could benefit from social visiting.  Companions chat with, read to or engage in activities with residents. 

This fulfilling volunteer role is well suited to those who have an interest in aging, can support a conversation with a variety of topics and interests, and is compassionate and caring. This volunteer opportunity is available during different times of the day, however, primarily during afternoons and evenings. 

 

 

 

Community Ambassador Volunteer

Community Ambassadors volunteers are often the first contact made with our residents and their families and visitors. A strong interest and passion for connecting with the community is essential. Volunteers will have active listening and communication skills.  Will have the ability to support others in distress by ensuring confidentiality with a non-judgmental, empathetic response.  Commitment to scheduled times as well as communicating with staff is important.  Primary responsibilities include:

  • Greeting  visitors and residents in a friendly and professional manner
  • Assisting with administrative tasks as requested by administrators. May include answering phones, or filing.

Entertainment Volunteer

This volunteer role provides musicians, singers, and entertainers with an opportunity to share their talent independently or while supporting Recreation Staff during an activity or special event. There is not an age requirement for this role, however, those under the age of 18 years are required to have an adult accompany them to their performance.

Spiritual and Faith Volunteer

Spiritual care volunteers support a person’s spiritual or religious needs as he or she copes with illness, loss, grief, pain and day-to-day feelings and can help to maintain a sense of spiritual wellbeing.

Tuck Shop (select communities)

Select communities benefit from the support of canteen/ tuck shop assistance.  Volunteers have positive communication with families and residents while providing sundry items that have been provided by the AgeCare Community. Shifts have been set to times when families and residents are most likely to visit and shop.

Primary responsibilities include providing companionship, a friendly face, and assistance with finding an item. Items may need restocking or arrangement however volunteers may also be able to study/ read between customers.
