Welcome to AgeCare

Volunteers make a difference

AgeCare is dedicated to creating vibrant communities that celebrate and support aging with dignity, independence and community interaction for seniors. If you have time to give and are interested in helping people live more enriched lives, we invite you to volunteer.  You will have the opportunity to enjoy the rewards of learning new skills, being part of an interdisciplinary team, building new friendships, and sharing your skills and gifts to brighten someone’s day. Volunteers range from family members to community members to neighbours and seniors themselves. Residents welcome our volunteers’ effort and eagerness to be a part of their lives.

In-Person Opportunities (scroll down for detailed descriptions):

An onboarding process including an interview, orientation and training is mandatory of all volunteers. A vulnerable sector search is required for most volunteer roles. Please note that community locations may or may not have each of these roles available.

  • Recreation volunteers (This is the most common volunteer opportunity with most AgeCare communities)
  • Companion/Friendly Visitor volunteers
  • Community Ambassador volunteers
  • Entertainment volunteers
  • Faith and Spiritual volunteers

AgeCare's Volunteer Application is not for a practicum or work experience placement. Please contact the AgeCare Community directly to learn more about these type of experiences.

Volunteer Opportunities

Recreation Volunteer

Recreational volunteers support residents to enjoy meaningful activities and build community connections with set up and participation of group activities. The Recreation Volunteer helps Recreation staff in delivering engaging programs with efficiency and maintaining a fun environment. Volunteering also directly creates an improved quality of life for residents.

Companion Volunteer

The Companion Volunteer will support residents in creating and enjoying meaningful experiences through one-to-one companion visits and activities; including playing cards, chatting, participating together in recreation programs, or other activities as mutually decided between AgeCare, the resident and volunteer. The Companion Volunteer may help the Recreation team with providing meaningful engagement to residents while maintaining a fun environment.

Community Ambassador Volunteer

Community Ambassadors are a welcoming face to the community. They help residents, families, and guests with a warm smile and knowledge of the community. Community Ambassadors volunteer alongside the administration staff and may be asked to help with answering the telephone or other administrative tasks as needed.

Entertainment Volunteer

The Entertainment Volunteer supports Recreation staff in delivering entertainment for residents on a regular basis. Volunteers provide entertainment which may include, but not limited to, singing, music, dance, etc. Volunteering also directly creates an improved quality of life for residents.

Faith and Spiritual Volunteer

Faith & Spiritual volunteers help residents connect with their faith and spiritual beliefs in a safe and supportive environment. Volunteers coordinate with the recreation manager and team for visits to site, supporting and meeting with residents of the same spirituality/faith. Volunteers celebrate the diverse beliefs of residents, encouraging participation from those who seek to attend.
