ED SUPPORT VOLUNTEER

Monday - Sunday

Hours:

Age:

08:00 – 12:00

18+

Here at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, we are always looking at ways to enhance our patients’ experience and as a Volunteer Service, patient experience is at the heart of everything we do.  By working together, our volunteers and hospital staff provide the best care and patient experience possible, something we are all very proud of

Requirements:

We are looking for volunteers who are reliable and who can commit to an agreed shift each week.  The ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and demonstrate a caring and compassionate nature are essential.  Volunteers must be friendly, approachable and helpful with a positive, can-do attitude and whilst on duty, be proud Ambassadors for our Volunteer Service

Main Tasks of this Role:

  • Sitting and talking to patients offering companionship
  • Changing water jugs
  • Handing out meals
  • Mealtime support
  • Keeping cubicles tidy and safe from falls hazards
  • Activities – reading, games, crosswords etc
  • Sitting with patients with dementia, autism, learning difficulties when required
  • Helping Patients gather their belongings ready for discharge (home, to a ward, to theatre)
  • Making phone calls (letting families know that their loved ones are with us)
  • Collecting FFT’s (Family + Friends Test Cards) from patients

The Difference You Will Make:

Volunteer support enhances our patients’ experience by being the friendly, non-clinical, face within the hospital.  Being able to give patients time to talk, laugh and sometimes cry, during what can be a very challenging time in their life, can be fundamental to their wellbeing.  Having volunteer support also enables staff to focus on clinical tasks, prioritise demands and make best use of their time so that they can deliver the very best patient care

In Return for Your Time, You Will Receive:

  • Full volunteer induction, on-the-job training and on-going support and supervision
  • Uniform, name badge, ID badge, free parking and travel expenses (up to a 40-mile round trip)
  • Optional additional training to complement and enhance your volunteer experience
  • Annual summer and Christmas social events and occasional coffee mornings
