Workshops Volunteer

What is the Project?

 Leeds Discovery Centre offers workshop activities for family audiences during the school holidays. We would like to involve a small group of volunteers to assist visitors to engage with the collections through our school holiday craft activities and workshops. The volunteers will be supporting the Learning Officer and the Discovery Centre team during the summer holiday period to ensure the smooth running of these pre-booked activities. There will be different themes each week. These will include Moths, Archaeology and World Music.

What’s involved?

 Interacting with family audiences in a group session

Assisting family audiences with craft and multi-sensory activities linked to Leeds Museums and Galleries collections.

Attending relevant training and inductions.

The role will suit people who are enthusiastic, reliable and trustworthy and have very good communication skills.  Ideally you will enjoy working as part of a team and be keen to learn and gain experience.  You should be able to work both with and without supervision when required, and whilst you must feel comfortable working with children, you will not be left to supervise them alone.    All volunteers should be willing to abide by the Council’s code of conduct.  No qualifications are required as training will be given.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Location:  Leeds Discovery Centre, Carlisle Road, Leeds, LS10 1LB

Time commitment and day:  Tuesday and Thursday during Leeds school holidays

Duration: Initially for 6 months. 

Expenses: Out of pocket travel costs between home and your volunteering place will be paid up to the value of £9.00 per day

Closing Date: Monday 25th May 2026

Intended start date: you will need to be available for the interview date of Thursday 11th June 2026. The role will start from Thursday 23rd July 2026.
