Volunteering Opportunity – Events Volunteers
What is the Project?
Throughout the year, our museums and galleries hold one-off events as a part of Community programming. Events can include workshops, stalls or craft activities. We are building up a team of volunteers who can help at these events across Leeds Museums and Galleries sites. Volunteers can select which events and locations they can help at.

What’s involved?
Welcoming people from a variety of backgrounds, faiths and cultures
Assisting with setting up and takedown of stalls; tables; chairs and any other equipment required on the day – this will entail some lifting and carrying
Assist with craft activity delivery
Encourage and support families and visitors to take part in the activity programme
Support artists and local partners to facilitate their session or activity
Check in on stall holders to ensure a smooth-running market
Possible Events scheduled include:
May, International Goth Day at Leeds City Museum
November, Hip Hop History Day at Leeds City Museum
November, Interfaith Day at Kirkstall Abbey
The role will suit you if you are friendly, enthusiastic and reliable. Ideally you will enjoy working as a team and be keen to learn and gain experience of welcoming visitors. You should be able to carry out tasks both with and without supervision when required. Volunteers should be willing to abide by the Council’s code of conduct. No qualifications are required as any necessary training will be given.
We welcome volunteers from a range of backgrounds. Please tell us if you require any adjustments to be made to enable you to attend. Access needs are listed by location Special Educational Needs and Access | Leeds Museums and Galleries | Days out and exhibitions

Location: This could be at Abbey House Museum, Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum, Leeds Discovery Centre, Leeds Industrial Museum, Lotherton, Temple Newsam
Time commitment: Sign up for half or whole day help for events
Day: flexible; Optional slots will mostly be at weekends
Duration: 3-6 months
Closing dates: Monday 30 March 2026. You will need to be available to attend a volunteer briefing on Saturday 18th April 2026.
Expenses: Out of pocket travel costs between home and the gallery will be paid up to the value of £9.00 per day.
