We welcome friendly volunteers to help out at The Mercury and build our community of screen creatives and cinema lovers.

The Mercury is a community focused, not-for-profit and member-run organisation, that is deeply passionate about connecting films and filmmakers with audiences.

Volunteer support is pivotal to our capacity to create a hub for filmmakers and audiences to connect, collaborate and enjoy the world of cinema.

Opportunities

Administration

Assist management with admin & reception duties including incoming calls and emails, membership management support, website support, subscriber bookings and more.

Marketing

Assist our Marketing Department with ongoing jobs including cinema program design and preparation, marketing outreach, event assets, and more.

Front of House

The Volunteer Front of House (FOH) Assistant is a welcoming and community-minded team member who supports the daily operations of The Mercury’s cinema and subscriber spaces. Working under the guidance of the Venue Manager and FOH team, volunteers help create a warm, inclusive, and engaging environment for all visitors.

With a passion for film and people, they play a key role in keeping the foyer open and active outside of standard screenings, providing a space where subscribers and guests can relax, connect, and learn more about what The Mercury has to offer. Volunteers assist with greeting patrons, maintaining presentation standards, and supporting public-facing activities such as film screenings and occasional events.

While they do not handle cash, volunteers may assist with EFTPOS transactions and general setup under staff supervision. This role is perfect for those looking to gain experience in a cinema setting, connect with Adelaide’s screen community, and contribute to a vibrant, not-for-profit arts venue.

Industry Programs

The Industry Support role is vital in not only maintaining, but accelerating our Industry Programs. As an Industry Support Volunteer, you will work closely with our Head of Industry Programs, where you will assist in the daily operations for not only keeping the current programs going, but also there to assist with them growing; supporting the development of new programs or opportunities.

Equipment & Facilities

We have a range of film equipment across camera, lighting, grip and audio which is hired out to our members.

Technical equipment requires regular operational checks and charging, and all equipment requires regular cleaning, organising, labelling, inventory upkeep and website updates as needed.

The facilities require basic upkeep including cleaning, software updating, system clean up, monitor calibrations, powering on and off as needed, charging equipment and structure repairs i.e. door handles coming loose.
