Social Mentor – 1:1
The Mentoring Program matches a child or an adult with a disAbility with a volunteer on a 1:1 ratio to encourage mentees to engage in their community. The focus is on having fun, exploring new activities and places and meeting new people, whilst developing social and life skills and greater independence.
Key responsibilities include:
Spending regular time with your participant, getting involved in the community and participating in activities that you both enjoy.
Supporting your mentee to actively engage in the local community and try new activities.
Role modeling good social communication and behaviour to assist your mentee to develop social skills.
Fostering a genuine and lasting friendship with the mentee and their family.
Advocating for the right and choices of the participant.
Ensuring the health and safety of you and your mentee.
Transporting your mentee if needed.
Other roles relevant to a specific activity or participant will be discussed prior to the program.
