LINC Classroom Assistant-English Language Centre Support
Role: LINC Classroom Assistant - English Language Centre Support
Purpose: Assist North Shore English Language Centre to give one-on-one or small group support to students within a classroom setting. Provide assistance in the LINC classes under the direct supervision of the classroom instructor, and support students who need extra support, including those with literacy challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive ahead of scheduled class time to meet with the instructor and provide support as needed
- Circulate and help the students / read the class and if a student really needs help, spend a long time with that student
- Talk and get to know the students and share personal stories and/or opinions with pairs/groups/ whole class to express your views about Canadian culture.
- Circulate and support students who are using the iPads or laptops in the computer lab
- Lead the class while the teacher does speaking tests outside the classroom
- Create an English-speaking environment for students and limit first-language use to teacher requests
- Other facilitation related duties as required
Competencies:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Highly responsible, organized, reliable and culturally sensitive
- Proactively seek opportunities to support teacher and student
Qualifications:
- Excellent English language skills (Benchmark 9+)
- TESOL certificate and experiences in teaching ESL is an asset
- Experience working with immigrants in a culturally diverse environment
- Knowledge of Canada and experience living in Canada
