Snowgum Volunteer Planting Days
Participating in one of the snowgum volunteer planting days is a great opportunity to help replenish these forests, you’ll be contributing to their long-term health and ensuring that future generations can experience the Aussie Alps as we do today. The snowgum (Eucalyptus niphophila) is an integral species in the Australian alpine environment, yet it is currently under significant threat.
Snowgums are one of the defining features of the Australian Alps. Their silver leaves glinting in the frosty morning light remind us of the vital role these resilient trees play in supporting the rich and delicate ecosystems of our alpine landscapes.
By lending a hand, volunteers' deeper connection with our environment and help protect it for future generations. Imagine learning bush skills directly from park rangers, while exploring some of the most breath taking landscapes in NSW alongside fellow nature enthusiasts. Volunteering offers a fantastic opportunity to gain new skill, get outdoors and meet like-minded people. Volunteers have already planted more than 2,500 trees in subalpine areas most affected by dieback, helping to restore these forests for future generations to enjoy.
NPWS will lead volunteer planting days in the Perisher Range to boost snowgum forest resilience. If you're of moderate fitness, as some sites are on steep/moderate slopes and all terrain is uneven, happy to get your hands dirty, and would like to work alongside friendly, like-minded locals, then join us for this rewarding volunteer work. No prior planting experience is required.
