Volunteer Opportunities

Tutor

Purpose

According to Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out - several students of Faith Learning Center need tutors that will guide the students as they answer lesson exercises.  The tutor provides one-on-one educational assistance to adult students under the teacher's supervision.  Our school is looking for volunteers who are willing to give a few hours of their time to do this task.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide students in answering Math or English exercises/test preparation 
  • Answer students’ questions regarding instructions or directions of the exercise/test 
  • Explain and demonstrate proper ways to answer Math or English questions 

Qualifications and Skills

  • God-fearing  
  • Patient and with a positive attitude 
  • Empathetic and kind-hearted 
  • Active listener 
  • Ability to work well with students and teachers 
  • With a high school diploma or higher 

Admin Assistant

Purpose

As what I Corinthians 14:40 says, “Let all things be done decently and in order”- Faith Learning Center office needs an administrative assistant to support the school principal with clerical tasks and record keeping. Our school is looking for willing individuals who can perform this job and who can offer a few hours of their time.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to the administrator. 
  • Act as receptionist; answer phone, greet and direct visitors, take messages and provide information. 
  • Maintain and file all confidential student records and cumulative folders – keeps up to date, in physical and digital format. 
  • Photocopy materials for administrative purposes. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • God-fearing 
  • Knowledge of office management 
  • Knowledge of office equipment and proficiency in MS Office  
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Maintain confidentiality related to students and staff 
  • With a high school diploma or higher 

Library Assistant

Purpose

As what Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding”- Books are a source of knowledge and wisdom; thus, Faith Learning Center needs a library assistant to assist with the administration and organization of the school library, and for helping students or visitors in finding the right reference materials. We are looking for individuals who are willing to give some of their time to do these library duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sort and shelve books according to their category 
  • Maintain records of books taken out and books brought back 
  • Suggest new books whose contents could give encouragement to readers  
  • Catalog new arrivals 
  • Organize the repair of damaged books 
  • Inspect the condition of books before and after check-out to ascertain any damage on behalf of the customer 

Qualifications and Skills

  • God-fearing 
  • Basic computer literacy 
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Training and/or certification or work experience as a Library Assistant 

Driver/Ride support

Purpose

Hebrews 13:16 says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Some students of Faith Learning Center need a ride that can pick up and drop them off at school. Our school is looking for pairs of individuals who can coordinate their schedule to work together who are willing to use their vehicle and to sacrifice some of their time in the morning and afternoon to pick up and drop off those students who have trouble acquiring a bus pass and finding a ride. (NOTE – even one-way service would be appropriate and helpful – even just bringing students to school would be great for all concerned!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with team-member to ensure that two people are in vehicle with student for each trip 
  • Communicate to the student when to expect pick-up (and knock on door to prompt responsible behavior if/when student participation/communication lags 
  • Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip 
  • Pick up and drive students safely to and from the destination and at the time they’ve requested 
  • Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions 
  • Provide legal documentation regarding license/insurance to UGM headquarters AND submit appropriate mileage reimbursement requests directly to UGM 
  • Report any concerns and issues to the principal  

Qualifications and Skills

  • God fearing 
  • Strong driving skills  
  • Ability to drive in various weather conditions  
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills  
  • High level of patience, compassion, and empathy in a non-judgmental environment  
  • Good working knowledge of the area  
  • Ability to be on-call and accept ‘last-minute’ ride requests  

General cleaning - light cleaning only 😊

Purpose

Hebrews 6:10 says “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Some students of Faith Learning Center can’t provide their own meals for breakfast and lunch. Our school is looking for willing individuals to help with filling our table with food and snacks for students and to also help in tidying up our school’s coffee room, office, and storage areas. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fill table in coffee room with snacks as they are available at FLC 
  • Prepare coffee, refill containers with sugar and cream 
  • Tidy up the coffee room by cleaning and placing pots and utensils in order 
  • Tidy up office and storage areas 
  • Occasional home-baked refreshments are always appreciated too!

  • Communication and customer service skills
