Volunteer purpose

LSS-SW resettles refugees fleeing war-torn countries, and provides immigration legal assistance to members of our Tucson community. Low-cost immigration assistance aids members of our community in receiving their permanent residency and citizenship status in the United States in a way that is affordable and preserves dignity and respect for sometimes vulnerable populations.

Duties and responsibilities

Volunteers with immigration services may be asked to assist in the following ways:

  • Providing free interpretation for speakers of the same language
  • Assisting with completing paperwork
  • Organizing files and updating database information
  • Outreach to community members interested in immigration services
  • Other jobs as needed

Qualifications 

To provide interpretation, volunteer must be fluent in English and the language of the client. Otherwise, volunteer must be organized, have strong communication skills, and be comfortable working in an office environment. Some prior experience working with people from other cultures is recommended.

Working conditions

Volunteer will be sharing space with staff from the LSS-SW Refugee & Immigration Services office. Volunteer can expect to be seated indoors for the majority of their tasks.

Training

Volunteer must attend a volunteer orientation. Training will be provided for specific tasks as needed.

Location & Times

Volunteer should expect to volunteer for at least 2 hours per week, but can vary based on need and volunteer availability. All shifts will take place during regular business hours, Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. The office is located at 120 N. Stone Ave, Suite #220R, Tucson, AZ 85701.

 

Clearances Required                               

A valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
