Administration Support Volunteer

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to use and develop your administrative skills to support the day-to-day work of the Administration team within our Stoke-on-Trent service. As part of the team, you will provide a warm and friendly welcome to clients and visitors to the service, answer phone calls from clients, direct them appropriately, and undertake other general administrative tasks to ensure the service runs smoothly and effectively.

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Stoke Community Drug & Alcohol Service, Unit 2, Whittle Court, Town Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 2Q
  • Flexible hours, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Helping to create a warm, welcoming and professional atmosphere for clients and visitors

  • Screening of phone calls to ensure clients  get to the correct team or most appropriate member of staff

  • Keeping the reception area tidy and up to date by maintaining clear, relevant, and current information displays

  • Meeting and greeting clients at Reception

  • Providing basic information and advice on the service offer in Stoke

  • Supporting the administrative team with their tasks, including scanning, copying and filing

 

What skills will you need?

  • A friendly, positive and approachable manner

  • Ability to work with people in a non-judgmental and solution-focused way 

  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team

  • Ability to emphasise with the challenges faced by the people using our services

  • Able to follow instructions and act on own initiative within set boundaries

  • IT literacy; previous experience of basic data entry and working on recording systems may be helpful

  • Good command of the English Language both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality

Recovery Support Volunteer

About the role

A rewarding opportunity is available to work as part of our core team to support collaborative recovery planning for people experiencing challenges with drugs and alcohol. You’ll positively contribute to a clients experience at all stages of their recovery journey - from assessment and engagement, right through to sustained recovery.

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Stoke Community Drug & Alcohol Service, Unit 2, Whittle Court, Town Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 2Q
  • Flexible hours, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supporting Recovery Workers to deliver one-to-one sessions including brief interventions and giving harm reduction advice

  • Supporting staff with the preparation, planning & delivery of specific interventions in client sessions

  • Supporting the needle exchange provision (training provided)

  • Aided by clinical staff, supporting with drug testing procedures to assist our clinical team’s assessments and reviews using specialist equipment

  • Accompanying staff who are visiting clients in the community or on home visits, providing reassurance and support to clients who might otherwise not be in a position to attend the service

  • Occasionally support group sessions 

  • If you have lived experience of using alcohol or substances yourself there will be opportunities to use this to provide  peer support to our clients

  • A friendly, positive and approachable manner

  • Ability to work with people in a non-judgmental and solution-focused way

  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team

  • Compassion and the ability to empathise with the challenges faced by the people using our services and their wider support network

  • Able to follow instructions and act on own initiative within set boundaries

  • IT literacy (use of computers and mobile phones) may be helpful

  • Good command of the English Language, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality in accordance with policies

  • Lived experience of drug and/or alcohol journey(s) is not required but people who have lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply
