Spotlight on Sport - Youth Outdoor Sport Committee

Position Description

Committee members will assist Outdoor Sport staff in the inspiration, development, and implementation of youth outdoor sport opportunities.  All skill levels and experience are appreciated and accepted; we simply request a willingness and passion for creating opportunity for youth to stay and become physically active and engaged in healthy community.

 

Qualifications

  • Between the ages of 13-17 years
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to follow direction and represent the City in a professional manner
  • Ability to work outdoors and have fun!
  • Light physical labour- lifting, bending, playing sports- modifications can be made if necessary.  Please contact the Outdoor Sport Leader at 604-218-4496 for details.

Responsibilities

May include:

  • Assist with brainstorming events/ programs
  • Assist with planning events/ programs
  • Assist with implementation of events/ programs
  • Assist with promoting youth engagement in outdoor sport programs and events
  • Attend and assist with regular programs and special events
  • Attend Regular Committee Meetings

 

Training and Support

  • Volunteer orientation
  • Volunteer seminars
  • Opportunity to attend selected seminars and training as available
  • Supervision and support from Outdoor Sport staff

 

Job Site & Work Environment

  • Both indoors and outdoors
  • Varying temperatures and conditions (rain/heat/cold)
  • We supply sporting equipment and resources. Suitable clothing for the weather and conditions and activity is the responsibility of the volunteer

Commitment

We offer a flexible timetable, which includes weekdays, evenings and weekends which make it easy to volunteer with outdoor sports.  A 1 year volunteer commitment is required with the busiest months being (April-August)

 

Limitations

In order to be on the Youth Outdoor Sport Committee and assist with events you must first become a registered City Volunteer (includes City orientation, reference check and Police Information Check)
