Volunteer With Us Volunteers are vital to the smooth running of the Townsville Heritage Centre. They take part in a range of activities including:
An understanding of Air Force history is helpful but not essential. Reliability, ability to work as part of a team, and enthusiasm are important. Assist with the maintenance, inspection, cleaning of exhibits and preservation carried out under the guidance of heritage Centre/Museum staff.
Duties vary widely and depend on the background, qualifications, ability and experience of the volunteer, and the priorities of the Heritage Centre/Museum’s maintenance area.
Work performed can range from assisting with changing aircraft tyres, cleaning aircraft, general housekeeping duties and assisting with display as required. The maintenance area also provides assistance to other areas of the Heritage Centre/Museum.
Meet and greet visitors upon arrival
Inform visitors of Heritage Centre/Museum of programs and services
Monitor exhibits by walking through Display Hanger
Familiarisation with most if not all Heritage Centre/Museum exhibits
Knowledge of and/or interest in aviation
Confidence and concise communication skills
Ensure sound and accurate information is being shared on the history of the RAAF and exhibits
Friendly and approachable disposition
Neat and professional attire
Sorting and filing photographs
Photocopying of documents and manuals
Documenting drawing
Transcribing diaries or audio historical accounts
Assisting with research inquiries from the general public
