General Interests

Employment Programs

Volunteers in employment programs partner with staff to support clients with their job searching. They help job seekers in the resource centre, welcome clients as they arrive, complete administrative tasks and support with the delivery of workshops.

Time Commitment:

  • Flexible shifts Monday to Friday 9AM-5PM
  • One shift per week for a minimum of three months

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 15.
  • Successful applicants 18 years of age or older will need to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening from their local police service before their first day of volunteering and every three years on the anniversary of their first day of volunteering.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to relate with diverse people.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; be sensitive to member’s needs.
  • Proficiency with the use of computer and office equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English.

 

College / University Student Placement and High School Co-op

College/University student placements in Employment Services partner with Job Skills Cousnellors, Employment Resource Consultant and other YMCA staff to support job seekers. During placement they will learn about job search strategies, case management, workshop facilitation and relationship building.

Time Commitment:

  • Flexible shifts, Monday to Friday.
  • Minimum one shift per week for three months.
