Dog Daze of Summer

The dog days of summer are in full swing and on Saturday, August 11th the Farmers Market will be celebrating just that! Dogs of all shapes and sizes and their owners are invited to take part in the fun as, Scrappy Presents Dog Daze of Summer, at the Grand Prairie Farmers Market, 120 W. Main Street. Furry friends will have the opportunity to play and cool off in a splash zone dog park, and get their picture taken in an outdoor photo booth! Owners will have the chance to gather important information on how to care for their dogs as well as get kisses from Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department’s own, Scrappy, a Prairie Paws Rescue! All donations and proceeds from treats and items sold at the event will benefit Prairie Paws.

General Administrative Help

Parks, Arts & Recreation welcomes volunteers throughout the year to come in and assist with general administrative tasks in preparation for major events.  Schedule is flexible during regular office hours, Mondays through Fridays, 8 AM - 5 PM.

Background check is required.

Hatch Chile Fest

Date: Saturday, August 18, 2018

Time: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Hatch chile peppers, both fresh and roasted, will be available for purchase 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out.)

Location: Market Square, 120 W. Main St., Grand Prairie, TX 75050

 

Get your hot roasted Hatch chiles at Grand Prairie Farmers Market’s annual Hatch Chile Festival on Saturday, August 18th! Join us for live music, food, and much more! Also, shop the market’s fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, coffee, tea, tamales, jellies and relishes, grass-fed meats, homemade soaps, candles and more.

Kid's Fishing Day

Come reel ‘em in on Saturday, February 24th at the Mike Lewis Park lagoon. This popular event is FREE to children 16 and under. The lagoon will be stocked with catfish and ribbons will be handed out to each participant. There is no registration fee to participate in the Kid’s Fishing Day, but there will be an on-site sign-up table. A limited number of loaner rods and reels will be available on a first come first serve basis with a driver’s license or credit card deposit. Registration is from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and fishing will be from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Current high school volunteers are invited to sign up for this event. Volunteer assignments include, but are not limited to, helping with registration and rod rental, handing out bait, and keeping measurement's of fish caught.

Sneak-A-Peek Run/Walk

Be the first to see all new displays at the 2017 Prairie Lights as you run, jog, walk or stroll through the lighted park. November 17th will be dedicated for runners, joggers and fast walkers. November 18th is set aside for those who want to walk and stroll through the lights. Registration is limited to the first 1250 participants each night. Early registration is preferred, but on-site registration will be accepted.

Join us for an enjoyable Halloween event in Grand Prairie! Participants will enjoy FREE games, face painting, kid’s crafts, and trick-or-treating at the Farmers Market! Prepare to dress to impress, ask “Trick-or-Treat” and bring a large bucket for candy!

That DAM Half & 5K

Join us Saturday, October 20th, 2017 where the City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department, Run Project and the PlayGrand Adventures Committee will be hosting That DAM Half & 5K, to help raise funds for the first all-inclusive playground, PlayGrand Adventures. Enjoy one of the most scenic runs in the metroplex at the best time of the year for running in Texas! 5K participants will receive a long sleeve, pullover and finisher medal. Half marathoners will receive a 13.1 long sleeve pullover, a unique finisher medal and a 13.1 sticker. For event information and registration details, please visit www.runproject.org/thatdamhalf/.
