About Us

 

The Capilano University Marketing Association (CAPUMA) was founded in 2014 by a small group of business students. Capilano University Marketing Association is a part of the BC collegiate chapters of the American Marketing Association. We provide opportunities to unite students and industry professionals. Our association creates marketing-related events that support the student’s knowledge, experience, and skills to enhance their education, career, and beyond. We are the leading student association in marketing resources, industry professionals, and community engagement.

Job Summary

 

The Director of Events will be overseeing a team while working in conjunction with fellow Directors. The role includes you being responsible for organizing, developing, and coordinating multiple events and activities throughout the year including Orientation Day, Marketing Week, the Winter Social, and the Spring Alumni-Student Social.

Duties will include but are not limited to actively delegating tasks, assisting team members, communicate and secure vendors, maintain event budget, monitor deadlines to ensure timelines are met, and act as the main coordinator for volunteers, sponsors, speakers, alumni, and honorees to ensure the optimum amount of success is achieved. 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties included but not limited to:

 

Director Responsibilities

 

  • Manage a team and ensure deadlines are met

  • Conform with Capilano University’s Student Code of Conduct by acting in a professional and appropriate manner while communicating with association members, fellow students, and faculty

  • Work professionally under pressure

  • Act as a role model for team members

  • Actively delegate tasks and offer assistance to other team members 

  • Assist and attend hosted association events 

  • Act as an association representative promoting upcoming events and initiatives to others

  • Be pro-active in taking the initiative to continually develop CAPUMA 

  • Communicate effectively within a timely manner

 

Event Responsibilities

 

  • Effectively communicate and secure arrangements with vendors

  • Coordinate and participate in all activities, meetings, preparatory sessions related to the event such as conducting research and coordinate venue visits

  • Secure event guest speakers and honorees 

  • Act as the main point of contact for all event inquires and vendors

  • Ability to manage incoming emails and respond promptly  

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

  • Work effectively in the coordination of events and deal with team members and participants

  • Event budget maintenance and ticket sales

  • Ability to use a great deal of detail and precision in drafting event documents such as schedules, inventories, amount of food required, etc. 

  • Managing the event details on the CAPMUA website, social media, and promotional material through the marketing team

  • Source new contacts for sponsors with the Manager of Partnerships 

  • Secure recruitment of volunteers and services 

  • Other duties as assigned
