Tutoring Elementary Students

 

Program Overview:
Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes and trains community volunteers to deliver one-on-one literacy tutoring to K–5 students through a structured, evidence-based curriculum. Volunteer Activities:

  • Work one-on-one with a student at one of our partner schools
  • Use Reading Partners’ prepared curriculum and lesson plans -> no prep time required outside your weekly session.
  • Commit to one tutoring session per week (1 hour each).
  • Both in-person and virtual tutoring options available.

Date & Time:
Tutoring sessions occur Monday–Thursday during school hours 8 a.m.–3 p.m.

  • Volunteers can choose their preferred school and session time.

  • Ascension Catholic School – 1726 Dupont Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411
  • Northrop Elementary School – 4315 S 31st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406
  • Jenny Lind Elementary School – 5025 N Bryant Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55430
  • New Millennium Academy – 5105 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429
  • Valley View Elementary School – 800 49th Ave NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421
  • Harambee Elementary School – 30 County Rd B E, Maplewood, MN 55117
  • Folwell Elementary School – 3611 20th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55407

 Volunteer Requirements:

  • Attend a Reading Partners orientation (online or in-person).
  • Complete a background check:
    • Public/charter schools: background check through Sterling Volunteers (covered by Reading Partners).
    • Catholic schools: VIRTUS certification through the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Other Details:

  • Volunteers should be able to sit for up to 45 minutes at a time.
  • Wear school-appropriate clothing.
  • Parking availability varies by school, and details will be provided after placement.
  • Food and beverages will not be provided.

*Please indicate at registration whether you are a URVC or UMRA volunteer.
