Mobile App Health Education Research Study
Program Overview:
- The University of Minnesota School of Nursing is seeking LGBTQ+ adults ages 50 and older to participate in a study to assess a new heart health mobile application. This study is being conducted by a doctoral candidate who is a registered nurse and member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Volunteer Eligibility and Training:
- Have access to an iPhone.
- Attend a one-hour training session at a mutually scheduled time and public Twin Cities area location. At this meeting participants will: fill out a consent form, complete a short questionnaire, and learn to use the health education mobile app.
- Participants will need to access their e-mail during this session.
- It is recommended that you bring a larger device such as an I pad or laptop along with your iPhone.
- Use the Mobile App for two months at home by reading the health education data recorded on the App for a few minutes each day.
- At the end of two months, meet for a one-hour audio recorded interview on what you learned from using the application.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Self-identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community
- Are 50-years-of-age or older
- Have an iPhone or iPad (Apple device)
- Have cardiovascular disease and/or cardiovascular disease risk, which includes:
High blood pressure (Hypertension), Diabetes, Smoker or other tobacco user (past or present), Obesity, High cholesterol (and/or lipoprotein disorder), History of heart attack (or acute coronary syndrome), History of stroke or “mini stroke” (TIA), Heart Failure, Coronary and/or peripheral artery disease.
- Are able and willing to meet with the student investigator at your preferred, public meeting place in the Twin Cities metro area.
- If you are not sure you qualify for the study, feel free to complete the registration Form and the student investigator will follow-up with you directly.
Parking/Transportation:
● Paid parking and transportation are not provided to study meetings.
● Volunteers can select meeting locations that will be convenient for them.
Volunteer Compensation:
● Volunteers will be able to select from an assortment of gift cards ($25 per meeting; $50 total) as a thank you for participating in the study.
