Musicians Needed to Play Soothing Music

within St. Paul Regions Hospital Atria

Regions Hospital is a major medical teaching institution, and a Level 1 Trauma Center for both children and adults located in downtown St. Paul. As a leading, full-service private nonprofit hospital, it provides special programs in heart, cancer, behavioral health, burn, orthopedics, emergency, and trauma care. 

The Volunteer Musician Program is a special area within the hospital’s overall Volunteer Program. Pianists, guitarists, vocalists, violinists, and other musicians perform soothing music for patients and guests in atrium areas. Intermediate to advanced level of music knowledge is required. 

Details of volunteer duties: Providing ambient music of a relaxing nature in the atria of either Regions’ West Entrance or the nearby Neuroscience Center

Dates, times (length of volunteer shifts, if applicable), and locations: Music volunteers "self-schedule" through Regions’ volunteer digital scheduling program which ensures that multiple volunteers are not accidentally scheduled for the same time period.  Typical shifts are one-hour and take place in the Hospital's West Atrium or the Neuroscience Center Atrium.

Volunteer eligibility and training requirements: Intermediate to advanced skill level; audition required. All Regions volunteers complete a self-directed, take-home Orientation and Education program based on the Volunteer Handbook prior to beginning duties. These open-book tests are required each year. 

Physical expectations/limitations: Annual TB tests, influenza shots and COVID vaccinations are required.

What to wear (or not to wear): Regions Volunteer Polo shirts are required ($11--available at Regions Gift Shops), black pants/slacks. The Volunteer Handbook provides additional essential information regarding clothing and volunteer expectations.

Parking/Transportation:  Parking in the on-site ramp will be validated

Covid precautions and other safety information: Proof vaccinations, and masks are required. Other details are outlined in the Volunteer Manual and covered in the self-directed Orientation test.

The Application process includes the following:

- Interview and audition

- Reference form completion

- DHS background study

- Orientation

- Health Screening 

- Purchase of a Regions volunteer polo shirt ($11)

Volunteers' food/beverage availability: Daily vouchers ($6.25) for cafeterias provided

Deadline for volunteer application: Volunteers are needed currently, and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis
