Volunteers Needed for Good Grocer Store Operation
Good Grocer is a nonprofit volunteer-powered grocery store in south Minneapolis that relies on over 400 volunteers to operate every aspect of the store. This allows for lower prices to be offered to the community. Good Grocer strives to provide quality healthy food to all our neighbors, while helping them build community.
Profits are used to contribute to the Food Outlet area of the store, that offers discounts of up to 70% off for those neighbors who struggle with food insecurity.
Details of Volunteer Duties:
Good Grocer relies on volunteers to help stock product and operate the store.
Volunteers power all parts of the operation including:
- Stocking
- Cashiering
- Bagging
- Welcoming/Greeting
- Cleaning
- Completing Administrative Work
Dates, times (length of shifts) and locations:
All shifts take place at the Good Grocer store located at
2650 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55408
People may volunteer individually, or as couples (friends/spouse/partner).
Length of all shifts are 2 to 2.5 hours. However, volunteers may schedule for more than one shift. Volunteers are needed for the following shifts:
Wednesday – Sunday:
3:30pm – 6:00pm
5:30pm – 8:00pm
Thursday/Friday:
8:30am – 10:00am
9:30am – 12:00pm
11:30am – 2:00pm
1:30pm – 4:00pm
3:30pm – 6:00pm
Volunteer eligibility and training requirements: Volunteers must be 16 years or older. No experience is necessary.
What to wear: Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes. Volunteers will be provided with a store branded apron to wear during their shift.
Parking/Transportation: Good Grocer has free parking on the west side of the building. There is also a metro bus stop right outside of the building on Nicollet Ave S & 27th St W.
Covid precautions and other safety information: There are currently no restrictions, but volunteers may wear a mask if they choose to.
Volunteer Compensation: All volunteers receive a 20% discount on their purchases in return for a commitment of 2-2.5 hours of their time each month.
Deadline: Volunteers are added year-round. Immediate and Ongoing.
