Music Perception Auditory Study
The Auditory Perception and Cognition Lab is interested in how the ear and brain work together to interpret the complex array of acoustic information (e.g., speech, music, and environmental sounds) that people encounter in everyday life. The basic science performed has many practical applications in fields such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and automatic speech recognition.
Details of volunteer duties: Volunteers will undergo listening evaluations under headphones and following researcher’s directions.
Dates, times, and locations:
A study is typically two-hour appointment. Volunteers and researchers can arrange a time that works for both; weekday, weeknight, and weekend options are available.
Location: Elliott Hall, 75 E River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55455
Volunteer eligibility and training requirements:
Volunteers ages 40-89 with either normal hearing or who have a hearing loss are needed.
- A hearing test will be given to ascertain if the participant qualifies for the current listening study.
- Sitting in a sound-treated booth and using headphones, volunteers will listen and make judgements about sounds presented through the headphones.
- Volunteers need to be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse.
Parking/Transportation: Parking will be provided.
Volunteers' food/beverage availability: Water and coffee will be provided upon request.
Volunteer compensation: Volunteers will receive $20/hour and paid parking.
