Who will see the difference? Asylum Seekers and patients receiving support with diabetes who require support with culinary skills
We are working with the University of West London to deliver cooking classes to Asylum Seekers and Diabetes Health and Wellness Coaching patients. The aim of the classes is to improve participants’ cooking skills, physical and mental wellbeing. Through this opportunity you will be able to support individuals from a vulnerable community, or with existing long-term conditions to build sustainable food practices. We are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, patient and considerate.
We will require support with
• Manage the sign-in and sign-up process, ensuring accurate records of attendees.
• Support parents by helping engage children with games, with staff supervision, while parents are busy cooking.
• Creating a safe and engaging play environment for children.
• Work with staff to ensure the safety and well-being of all children in line with our safeguarding duty.
Considerations
The classes are led by professors in food and nutrition science from the University. We welcome a fun and interactive approach to engaging with participants! A briefing on the importance of sensitivity, health and safety will be provided on the day just before starting your shift.
