The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. It will be starting on Saturday 11th July and end Saturday 12th September.
It is aimed at children aged 4 to 11 years, regardless of their reading ability. Children enrol onto the scheme at their local library, where they can choose books to read as part of the challenge and receive rewards and a certificate once they have completed the challenge! Volunteers will support them by asking very simple questions about their books and will also encourage kids to take part in other various activities related to the challenge.
The volunteer role helps children to improve their reading skills and confidence in a fun and welcoming environment.
Based on the hours you accumulate you will also receive a certificate which can be used as evidence to acknowledge all your hard work.
- 15 hours = Bronze Certificate
- 30 hours = Silver Certificate
- 50 hours = Gold Certificate
- 100 hours = Star Certificate
