Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Volunteer

 

Position Description

TNR volunteers will work close with staff as they trap cats in targeted locations and transport them to and from the ARL facility for the cats spay/neuter. They may also be required to care for the trapped cats pre-and post- surgery at the ARL facility when colony caregivers do not have suitable areas for this purpose. Volunteers for this position must be able to provide excellent customer service as they interact with colony caregivers and the public during the trapping procedure. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and a vital understand of the ARL’s polices and procedures.

Supervisor

Community Cat Coordinator or designated individual.

Essential Work Functions

  • Work with our ARL staff and community members to determine areas that need to be targeted TNR
  • Offer phone and in person assistance to community members and colony caregivers that need assistance with setting up traps
  • Transporting trapped cats to and from the ARL for spay/neuter appointments using your own vehicle. Company vehicles may be used on a case-by-case basis.
  • Return altered cats to the exact location where they were trapped.
  • Complete and return data forms to the Community Cat Coordinator monthly to allow for program tracking and reports.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Have a valid driver license
  • Be able to understand directions, maps and have navigational skills in unfamiliar areas
  • Be able to communicate with a wide array of people effectively and without judgement or making harmful remarks and work comfortably in underserved communities
  • Be able to tactfully deal with challenging questions or concerns and opposing viewpoints from the public
  • Be able to work independently and as a team while using good judgment
  • TNR experience is strongly preferred but not required
  • Serve as an ambassador for the ARL in our community

 

 Training & Support

  • Attend Volunteer orientation, whether in person or virtually
  • Complete mandatory cat training courses
  • Complete Public Outreach Training
  • Train with a qualified ARL staff member and/or volunteer

Dress Code

  • ID tag badge and ARL volunteer attire
  • Closed Toe Shoes
  • Long Pants
