Ambassadors are costumed guest-service volunteers who help visitors feel welcome, informed and confident as they explore Heritage Park.

The Ambassador program is supported by Volunteer Engagement and is separate from the Interpretation volunteer program. Rather than interpreting one particular exhibit, Ambassadors focus on the overall guest experience by offering directions, answering questions and connecting visitors with the activities, amenities and experiences that may interest them.

• Respond positively to guest concerns and connect visitors with staff when additional assistance is needed

Where Ambassadors Serve

Front Plaza

Plaza Ambassadors welcome visitors before they enter the Park. They circulate between the unloading area and entrance, assist school and tour groups, provide directions and help guests identify the correct admissions line during busy periods. They may also provide short orientation-style meet and greets for visiting groups.

Midnapore Information Booth

Midnapore Ambassadors provide a central source of information inside the Park. They answer questions, recommend activities, provide directions and share updates that help guests plan the rest of their visit. This assignment may include communicating train information and using a two-way radio.

Roving Village

Roving Ambassadors circulate through the historical village, approaching guests, answering questions and helping visitors find exhibits, activities and services. They stay familiar with the day’s programming so they can help guests discover what is happening throughout the Park.

Previous guest-service experience and knowledge of Heritage Park, Calgary or Southern Alberta are assets, but are not required.

Training and Support

Ambassadors receive training in guest engagement, customer service, Park orientation, daily operations and the practical information needed to assist visitors. New volunteers may also receive guidance and mentoring from experienced Ambassadors and staff. Ambassadors are supported by Volunteer Engagement and receive updates and resources to help them provide current, consistent information throughout the season.

Scheduling and Commitment

Ambassadors are generally asked to contribute at least 50 hours during the May to October season. Regular participation helps volunteers build their Park knowledge and provides guests with consistent support throughout the season.

Half-day and full-day opportunities may be available at the Front Plaza, Midnapore Information Booth and throughout the historical village. Available assignments and schedules are posted through MyImpact.

Costuming and Working Conditions

• Heritage Park provides period-appropriate costuming.
• Volunteers provide their own footwear as approved by the Costume Department.
• Some assignments require the use of a two-way radio or keys provided during the shift.
• The role involves standing and walking for extended periods over uneven ground and boardwalks.
• Ambassadors work outdoors and may be exposed to hot, cold or changing weather.
