The SEED - Surplus Sorting
About Surplus Sorting
Each Friday morning, our team receives surplus food donations from Second Harvest and other community partners. Volunteers help unload, sort, and assess the quality of all incoming food items. Every box is reviewed carefully to ensure freshness, safety, and suitability for redistribution.
We are committed to cataloguing all donations accurately and maintaining the highest quality standards in the food we share. Only food that meets our safety and quality criteria is distributed to our community partners.
This role supports our mission to reduce food waste and ensure that nutritious, high-quality food reaches the people and programs that need it most. In 2024 The SEED received, catalogued and distributed over $2.2 million in surplus food, we are on track to meet this target again in 2025.
