Food Rescue Driver
Time Commitment: ~ 3 – 5 hours/week, ongoing
Days/Times: Thursdays
- Start time between 10 – 11:30 am
- End time between 2 – 3 pm

- Pickup: Second Harvest, Etobicoke branch

Impact of Position:
As a Food Rescue Driver, you’ll play a vital role in recovering surplus food and delivering it to our warehouse to support community food access. This position includes routine weekly pickups from Second Harvest, as well as one-off donation collections across Southern Ontario, following directions from our Wholesale Enterprise Coordinator to help secure high-quality food for our programs.
You’ll operate a straight truck (Freightliner) and or Hino Cube Van, assisting with loading and unloading donations, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Safety shoes are required, and all other personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided. This is a hands-on, impact-driven role that combines logistics, reliability, and community care.
Duties:
- Ensuring vehicle safety checks are done pre- and post-trip to comply with Highway Traffic Laws
- Taking vehicles to be filled up with gas
- Pick up surplus food pallets from Second Harvest in Etobicoke
- Ensure we arrive in a timely manner for our appointments
- Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently with pallet jacks
- Transport food to The SEED’s Fresh Food Warehouse
- Communicate with SEED staff if any issues arise during delivery
Skills Required:
- Valid G-class license and clean driving record
- Comfortable driving large cube vans and trucks
- Able to lift up and move crates and products (up to ~50 lbs.)
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfort working independently
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team
- Commitment to equity and anti-oppressive practices
Training:
- Orientation and tour of The SEED’s Fresh Food Warehouse
- Training in driving The SEED’s cargo vans and trucks
- Overview of delivery procedures and loading practices
- Ongoing support and communication from SEED staff

The SEED is a not-for-profit food access program of the Guelph Community Health Centre that was created in 2015 by a coalition of community organizations and individuals.
