Surgery Pack Prep Volunteer
Objective:
To assist the Racine Veterinary Department by cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring efficient surgical operations and high standards of animal care. Your contribution helps ensure animals receive timely and safe surgical care.
Duties:
- Clean and sanitize surgical instruments according to WHS protocols.
- Assemble and wrap surgical packs for sterilization.
- Organize, clean and restock surgical supplies in the prep area.
- May also assist in surgery laundry and other various cleaning duties if time allows.
Skills Needed:
- Attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate with staff and volunteers.
- Comfort working in a medical environment with exposure to surgical tools and occasionally exposure to animals who need exams done by veterinary team.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision from veterinary support staff.
- Previous experience in veterinary or medical settings is helpful but not required.
- Physical demands: standing, walking, writing, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.
Required Training:
- Meet & greet with volunteer coordinator.
- Hands-on training with Veterinary Support staff.
- Ongoing guidance and support during volunteer shifts.
Commitment/Age Requirement:
- A minimum of 6-month commitment required.
- Must be 16 years old or older to volunteer alone, 13-15 years old can volunteer with an adult.
Shifts:
- Typical shifts are 2 hours long and can be flexible between the hours of 12pm-5pm (12pm-2pm, 1pm-3pm, 2pm-4pm, or 3pm-5pm). Day of the week needing to fill are Tuesdays. This can be done as a solo volunteer position but can also work well if done as a team of two.
